Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. UN Environment China Office is responsible for coordinating, promoting and assisting the implementation of UN Environment programmes and initiatives in partnership with the Chinese Government, international organizations, and other stakeholders, notably on Greening Belt and Road Initiatives, resource and energy efficiency, outreach to public and youth, environment and health.
The Project Management and Outreach Support Interns will support the China Office team, Programme Management Officer and China Coordinator on all activities in China for UN Environment’s seven subprogrammes Climate Change, Ecosystem Management, Environmental Governance, Resource Efficiency, Harmful Substance and Hazardous Waste, Disaster Management and Environment under Review,and emerging and cross-cutting issues, such as Pollution and Health, Ocean, Environment Safety & Security, Urbanization, Wildlife, Green Finance and Economy.
Project Management and Outreach Support Intern (three positions)
The Programme Support internship is for 6 months. A shorter period can be agreed in consultation with the selected applicant provided internship is at least three months long.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time, and based in Beijing, China.
Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Beijing is a modern city, Capital of China. It has the normal living conditions for a capital city in a middle-income country in Asia.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the China Office Programme Management Officer, The Interns will:
(1)Perform programme and project related research and analysis on environmental topics and issues relevant to the China Office activities and its technical assistance to global and regional projects and related initiatives;
(2)Support communications initiatives and tasks, including support on developing communications products for the priority programme and projects and their flagship initiatives for targeted audiences, as well as support on briefing notes, web-stories, presentations, speeches, and related materials;
(3)Assist gathering and analysis information and data on issues significant to programme and projects of UN Environment which have activities in China, including qualititative and quantitative analysis, infographics presentations and power point presentations; and
(4)Prepare draft background materials on environmental issues in China which includes governmental policies and implementation progress, experts views and recommendations on how to enforce the policies, best practices in other countries, particularly in relation to UN Environment's projects related to Belt and Road Initiative and linkages with the Sustainable Development Goals;
(5)Assist in liaison with partners in China on preparation and organization of outreach events, including venue and meeting facilities set up, logistic arrangements and information packages to participants and media; and
(6)Perform other duties as required.

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
